I don’t know about you but I can’t believe where this year has gone to, over half way through August and less than 18 weeks until that big day that comes every year you either love or hate, Christmas!! In fact, I received an email today which was trying to get me to book a meal with them for Christmas, way too early and so much more to see and do before the year ends.
Now for those who know me well, I enjoy binge watching the occasional TV show or Netflix series, and I love nothing better than being old school and actually going to the cinema to watch a movie. Yes, I know I could just download it or wait for the DVD, but to me there is no better way to watch a new release than sitting in a dark room with complete strangers and getting completely swept away with the movie magic, as long as you can put up with the loud popcorn chompers and those annoying people who can’t stay off their phones for the duration of the film!!
So to whet the appetite even more, this is a list of all the films and TV shows coming to you that you cannot possibly miss.
24th August (Tonight)- The Great British Bake-off
Who doesn’t love Paul and Mary bitching about people’s baking, or Sue and Mel unavoidably making any moment of the show into some awkward sexual innuendo, yes it’s Bake-off 2016 time and the bakers look better than ever.
There is the usual family baker who spends her life baking for the grandchildren, the young girl who bakes for fun, and the ever more popular ‘hot’ guy who isn’t actually that hot but compared to the others is suddenly lusted after by women and gay men alike.
What better way to end Summer and welcome in Autumn than with baking, drama and laughs aplenty.
27th August – The X Factor
Now, you either love it or you loath it (personally I love it), but where else are you going to find a bunch of young, mostly beautiful hopefuls hoping to make it big who have no talent, oh wait that’s pretty much every single entertainment show on TV.
I jest (slightly), but actually I love watching the auditions to see who is going to blow the judges away this year, always waiting for the Paul Potts style moment where the beast becomes beautiful. Then the drama of the ‘6 chair challenge’. The heartbreak at Judges Houses and then the live shows!!
This year welcomes back, in my opinion, the best panel that the show could have. Nicole ‘Schamazing’ Scherzinger, Louis ‘You made it your own’ Walsh, Sharon Osbourne and of course Mr Nasty himself, Simon Cowell!!
I’m excited, even if I have to force my boyfriend to sit and watch it with me!!
30th September – Luke Cage
Now if you’ve watched the other Marvel TV series available on Netflix, you will definitely be excited about this one, in fact I would get Netflix just for these shows!!
Along with Daredevil, Jessica Jones and the upcoming Iron Fist series, Luke Cage forms part of the what will be the Defenders series, arriving next year, but before that we get to this story. The man who has superhuman strength and stamina, and has extremely dense skin and muscle tissue, which render him highly resistant to physical injury is set to star in his own series after appearing in Jessica Jones, hopefully this means we might get to see star Krysten Ritter appear after shining in her own show.
If the trailer is anything to go by I am expecting plenty of violence, drama, tense action and amazing storytelling from the team. This is a must watch!!
24th October – The Walking Dead Season 7
Anger, anger is all I felt at the end of Season 6. Anger at the writers for leaving us, the audience, on such a cliff hanger!!
I am eagerly anticipating the start of the new season, with the creators promising us we will find out who got a bat to the head in season finale, but I have a strange feeling it will have the same frustrating structure as every other series. Exciting start, rubbish episodes until the mid-season finale, then another string of boring episodes until the end of season when it actually starts to pick up.
Definitely a series for the patient, and if you like shows which shares every single detail of a character then this is definitely for you…I may just turn off after I find out who died!!
28th October – Doctor Strange
Sherlock fans and Cumberbitches unite, this is going down! Fans fought for and against this casting decision but Benedict Cumberbatch is officially Doctor Strange, and in October Marvel are hopefully going to pull another magical rabbit out of their hat.
Probably, just like Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man before it, which were relative unknowns to audiences and a risk for Marvel (but huge successes), this film will hopefully work and could be another hit just like the more well-known superhero films before it.
Doctor Strange sees our first look into Marvel’s magical world of parallel dimensions and megalomaniacal sorcerers. So what can we expect from the adventures of the Sorcerer Supreme? Who knows, as usual the makers are playing hard ball and keeping their cards close to their chest, but we do know it has a massive roster of stars including Tilda Swinton, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams and Mads Mikkelsen as the big bad of the movie.
My inner geek is coming out and I am extremely excited for what could be another giant success for Marvel and the fans! Check out the mind-bending trailer here.
16th December: Star Wars: Rogue One
Star Wars brings back so many memories from my childhood and I absolutely recommend them as a must watch film series, if you haven’t watched them where have you been. I implore you to stop what you’re doing right now and go watch them. The original trilogy is definitely the best.
After last years Episode VII this new film isn’t actually part of the main series, but is a standalone film set between Episode III and IV, so basically is bringing back big bad Darth Vader as it is set before the start of the original trilogy.
Not much is known so far about the story, but from what we do know the film is based on the Rebels trying to steal the plans for the Death Star, if you haven’t watched any of the Star Wars films this will make no sense at all.
Definitely one for the fans but I know where I will be come 16th December.
So what are some of your must watch films and TV shows coming up, please feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below. Do you agree with mine or think they are complete trash?
Until next time…
