I don’t know about you, but 2016 seems to have flown by pretty fast, so much has happened over the year, friends have come and gone, loved ones have sadly departed and me and Matt are getting ready to celebrate the second Christmas in our new home, but the year has come (and nearly gone) and done so in a fabulous blur.
To end the year here are my personal highs and lows over the year and what’s coming up in 2017.
One of the biggest things for me was starting this very blog, I’ve been meaning to start it for a while but 2016 was the year to do it. I’ve loved every part of it, getting some great feedback from my co-workers and fellow bloggers. One blog in particular I love reading is my friend Paul’s – Dippyman – which mixes Paul’s love of nature with his more personal story of battling depression. I love and respect Paul’s honesty and it inspired me to bring my personal battles to the fore.
A personal highlight for me this year was my blog from pretty early on Fat to thin(ner) – it’s not only your waistline that changes! – it received some really great comments and feedback, in fact it was my highest viewed blog from the year. I’m never afraid of being honest and it feels like a weight off my mind when I share these stories with people, even if it makes somebody else think that they could shed a few pounds, that would make it worth it.
Everything seemingly went wrong
Let us not forget though what a terrible year it has been for so many people, we seem to have lost a lot of great talent this year such as David Bowie, whose numerous reinventions and creativeness over the years have been adored by fans all over the world; Alan Rickman, who I will always remember as Snape in the Harry Potter films but was also famous for roles in Die Hard, and one of my favourites Robin Hood. Gene Wilder, Pete Burns, Kenny Baker, Victoria Wood, Anton Yelchin, and Prince, all respected by fans all over the world and very much missed.
As well as this I look back in sadness at other tragedies this year, such as the Orlando Pulse shooting which sparked outrage and debate across the world at some of the responses to it, such as the outright refusal from Sky News reporters to actual call it an attack on the gay community. I applaud Owen Jones for walking out of that interview! However, what I found most touching is how, not only, the gay community rallied to support the victims and their families, but also other allies too, such as the amazing Metro reporting which restored some of my faith in the media (apart from the Daily Mail).
What’s ahead in 2017
So what am I excited for in 2017? Well at the moment after all the Christmas food and socialising you inevitably do over the festivities, I am going to be in desperate need of a health and fitness ‘kick up the arse’. I plan on starting to record my progress through both Instagram and my blog – follow me on Instagram (kinda interesting fact – all my blog pictures come from here). I’m going to be following the Lean in 15, Joe Wicks diet, which is probably going to be easier said than done, but I am definitely motivated now. So keep a track of my progress on here.
Other things I’m looking forward to is what’s next to come for me, I hope to keep writing the blog, trying to write more of my novel, and I also want to start building more content up on MyTrendingStories – if you haven’t already, take a look at my page.
Also, me and Matt are planning on a house overhaul, lots of decorating and a new look for the home. It still almost feels like my sister’s house so we are in dire need of a new style direction. For this I’ve been addicted to Pinterest, it’s so good to get ideas and inspiration for lots of different things.
What are your goals for 2017? Giving up a vice? Starting a new project? What ever it is just give it your all, set your goals high and keep going until you get there, never give up.
I feel like I started the year in an aura of self-doubt and uncertainty, but finishing the year I feel like I’ve accomplished a lot and my life seems to be going pretty well. I am very excited to see where 2017 takes me and Matt and what is going to happen.
To end this blog, and I guess my 2016 posts, a quote that I think is pretty apt for me at the moment, what’s your quote?
The best thing to hold onto in life is each other.
